Perhaps it can work for the odd file search when you know the exact name and format of the respective entry, but that\u2019s about it. The aptly named Where is one such utility that takes this process very seriously, offering users a capable, comprehensive utility whose feature set lets you zero in on the files you\u2019re after: search by file content, use metadata filtering, use filter scripts to quicken the work, and much more.<\/p>\n

File searching for power users
\nAmong the first things you\u2019ll notice is the focus on practicality. There are lots of buttons and functions, each of which does different things, so it can take a bit of time before fully acclimating to the software.<\/p>\n

Upon selecting your directories, it\u2019s time to consider what you\u2019re after. If it\u2019s a document or some type of media file, it\u2019s recommended to select the corresponding mode for a more efficient process. \nIf you\u2019re very particular about accuracy, the program gives you access to the Filter Script Editor to configure your searches with granularity. There can be a bit of a learning curve to it, but the software does provide you with a series of common file attributes and tags, as well as quick access to various functions, aggregates, and operators to help you write your own scripts.<\/p>\n

These scripts can then be saved as presets you can use for subsequent operations. This can work especially well for large directories that are varied in their content, so once you get a feel for customizing your own scripts, you\u2019ll be able to precisely find what you\u2019re looking for.<\/p>\n

Also integrates various file management amenities
\nThe program includes a series of file management functions to help you do more. Some of these include being able to rename multiple files at once, edit attributes and metadata, create file structures for easier grouping, compare file hashes, and so on. I should also mention the Analysis feature, which essentially generates reports and charts corresponding to your searches.<\/p>\n

Where is an exhaustive file searching app that gives you the tools to be as thorough as you need with your searches. It\u2019s a utility that should be capable of handling even the most intensive of workflows, making its extensive toolset valuable for anyone who needs a heavy-duty solution.<\/p>\n
