SteelX is a third-party plugin for Advance Steel (Autodesk’s steel detailing software), built to add BIM and workflow features that Advance Steel itself doesn’t have — especially relevant since Autodesk put Advance Steel into maintenance mode in 2023 (no new features going forward).
Key things it does:
- Real IFC export with 3D geometry, colours by layer, and BIM properties per element (both IFC4 and IFC2x3)
- Exports elements grouped by assembly — beams, plates, and fasteners linked together — for use in Revit, Navisworks, or BIM 360
- Built-in AWP (Advanced Work Packaging): assigning CWA, CWP, and IWP directly to model elements, carried through to IFC
